Karsan has added another project to its portfolio of hydrogen-powered public transportation initiatives in line with its vision for sustainable mobility. With the e-ATA Hydrogen model, developed using Toyota’s fuel cell technology, the company has launched a new project in the Italian city of Terni to support the transition to clean transportation.

Karsan is expanding in hydrogen mobility too

The handover ceremony, held at Piazza Europa, was attended by local authorities, project partners, and invited guests. In this project, implemented as part of the Umbria Region and the Italian Ministry of the Environment’s air quality improvement program, the Abruzzo Region serves as the main partner, while the University of Perugia provides academic support.

Commenting on the matter, Karsan CEO Okan Baş stated, “We are delighted to be part of this project, which is being implemented under the EU-funded LIFE3H program. We would like to thank Busitalia, LIFE3H, the Municipality of Terni, Linde Gas Italia, the Abruzzo Region, and the University of Perugia for their collaboration on this important project, which contributes to the sustainable transformation of public transportation. We believe that this collaboration in Terni will make significant contributions to the widespread adoption of hydrogen technology in public transportation and the goal of cleaner cities.

A major contribution to the clean transportation transition

Highlighting that Karsan is a key partner in the transition to zero-emission mobility, Okan Baş stated, “Thanks to our strong R&D capabilities, we are playing an active role in transformation projects across Europe. We believe that hydrogen technology offers a significant alternative, particularly for public transportation routes that require long ranges and intensive operations. These new-generation vehicles powered by clean energy contribute to cities’ sustainable transportation goals while also representing a crucial step toward cleaner and more livable cities. We are pleased to contribute to Terni’s clean transportation vision with our e-ATA Hydrogen model, developed using Toyota fuel cell technology,” he said.
